Mitt Romney’s victory in Virginia may be dismissed by a lot of political observers given that Rep. Ron Paul, R-Tex., was his only competitor on the ballot. But I don’t think that’s fair. Sure, if more candidates were in the ballot he might not have won. But both Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum were operating by the same rules and reside in Virginia, so there was no excuse for them not to make the ballot. They couldn’t because they didn’t have the proper campaign infastructure. One of the main reasons why Romney has consistently been considered the favorite for the GOP nomination has been his superior organization, and that’s precisely the reason why he ended up with the easy win in Virginia.
