There are many indications, including the long piece on Pawlenty in Iowa in today’s Washington Post, that Mitt Romney is not playing to win in Iowa. But if he isn’t, he’d better hope that there’s no truth to Tim Carney’s piece for tomorrow on his opening position in New Hampshire.
Carney argues that the candidate who can win the dissatisfied, anti-establishment vote — the vote currently represented by Donald Trump’s 17 percent showing in a recent ARG poll — will win. And as some of Tim’s Granite State interlocutors suggest, Romney seems like the last candidate anyone would describe as “anti-establishment.” He failed to win either key state in the 2008 race, and his work appears to be cut out for him this time.
