Yesterday it was Paul Ryan, today it’s Chris Christie.
“BREAKING: My sources say NJ Gov. Chris Christie is conducting focus groups in preparation for a possible run for president in 2012.” tweeted the Daily Beast’s Jonathan Alter today.
Christie aides quickly responded, “It’s not true” and “absolutely not true.”
Minutes later, Alter sheepishly walked back his report, citing “another source, close to Christie and v-reliable, says there are no Christie focus groups and nothing has changed. I trust him.”
Maybe the field isn’t set after all as GOP insiders are still looking past popular GOP newcomer Rick Perry and setting their sights on Chris Christie and Paul Ryan.
Christie has been on Republican’s wish list for a long time, but supporters were discouraged after Christie said, “Apparently, I actually have to commit suicide to convince people I’m not running.”
Update: Christie addessed today’s resurgent rumors at a press conference.
But also, it’s really flattering it seems like every time somebody gets in people go, “He’s not as good as Gov. Christie, let’s ask him again.” Okay, that’s nice I’m flattered by that, but I have a job to do here and I’m focused on my job here. I’m not focused on anything else.
