The greatest president in the history of the United States is leaving office, and it’s time to say “thank you.”
That’s what the Democrats’ political arm suggests, anyway.
Plowing new vistas of shamelessness, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee sent an email out to its list demanding a note of thanks to a man whose achievements must exceed those of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and so forth. The same man Republicans might compare to Millard Fillmore.
We’re getting SO emotional,” the DCCC writes. “President Obama’s time in office is almost at its end. But before he goes, we want every grassroots Democrat to sign his thank you card! Thank you for everything. President Obama has earned our thanks.
“SIGN THE CARD,” the email orders. “We’re running out of time with the best President ever — so let’s make his last weeks extra special! We want to get 1,000,000 signatures to show President Obama how much we appreciate him.”
Only, while Obama gets the thanks, the DCCC gets the money, and some more data about those on its list. Clicking “SIGN THE CARD” brings you to a page where you are asked for you zip code. Giving the DCCC that information takes you to another page where you are hit up for some cash, with “$25” helpfully highlighted among the choices.
There’s still a few weeks left, though. Maybe Obama will yet surpass the Father of our Country and the man who saved the union.
