WH: Obama ‘looking forward’ to hosting Bush

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said that President Obama and former President Bush will enjoy their meeting tomorrow because they have a relationship that “transcends” partisan politics.

“Not at all,” Carney replied when asked if it would be “awkward” for Obama to host Bush given how often Obama attacks Bush’s record. “I think there is a community here with very few members that transcends political and policy differences.”

“There is so much shared experience,” Carney explained, “that there is much to talk about that they hold in common, so there’s not a lot of need to talk about where they differ.”

He also said, “I know the president looks forward to it.”

Bush and his wife, Laura Bush, will visit the White House for the unveiling of their official portraits.
