Lindsey Graham welcomes Caitlyn Jenner’s vote

On Sunday in Iowa, Sen. Lindsey Graham steered away from foreign policy for a minute to announce his support for Caitlyn Jenner.

When CNN’s Dana Bash asked the South Carolina Republican about Jenner, the presidential hopeful framed his continued support for the pro-life cause and traditional marriage as being “without animosity.”

Graham welcomed Jenner into the Republican Party and said that Jenner should vote for him if she supports a strong national defense and less federal debt.

Graham even incorporated Jenner into his pitch for a strong foreign policy. One of Graham’s policy priorities is to combat radical Islam. Graham believes that radicals “hate Caitlyn Jenner” and that America is “all in this together.”

Jenner revealed herself as a transgendered woman and, perhaps more surprisingly, as a Republican in an April ABC News interview with Diane Sawyer. Last week, she introduced her new persona on the cover of Vanity Fair.

“I haven’t walked in her shoes,” Graham told CNN. “I don’t have all the answers to the mysteries of life. I can only imagine the torment that Bruce Jenner went through. I hope he’s — I hope she has found peace.”

Graham, who announced his campaign on June 1, has not yet made a strong mark in the polls.
