To Harry Reid’s remarks about the need to pass his jobs bill because unemployed men are abusive toward their wives, former Sen. Fred Thompson offered his own Twitter version of “Speak for yourself, jackass.”
fredthompson Reid: Jobless men = domestic abuse. Is he saying we should be worried about Mrs. Reid after the November elections?
Reid was not pleased, Politico’s Glenn Thrush relates his spokesman’s statement:
“While Fred Thompson may think he was being funny, it is unfortunate and disappointing that so many on the right would make light of domestic abuse,” Jim Manley wrote me in an e-mail. “As someone who witnessed it firsthand as a child, Sen. Reid does not find the issue funny.”
But then why did Reid make light of the issue on the Senate floor — employing gross gender stereotypes as he did so — in order to promote a cheap, face-saving jobs bill?
