Rick: ‘They caught you not telling the truth, Ron’

Ron Paul is attacking Rick Santorum pretty hard early in tonight’s ABC debate, saying that he is “corrupt,” but Santorum ‘s immediate response suggests that he’s much more comfortable and collected now that he doesn’t have to ask debate moderators for questions.

Paul called Santorum a “corrupt” politician; when Paul’s microphone malfunctioned momentarily, Santorum deadpanned, “They caught you not telling the truth, Ron.” Paul was relying on a study by CREW (Citizens for Repsonsibility and Ethics in Washington). It was a smooth moment from Santorum, who has appeared irascible in earlier debates, when he wasn’t getting attention unless he picked a fight or complained to the moderators.

Santorum had an effective response to Paul’s charge, calling CREW a liberal organization. “If you haven’t been attacked by CREW, you’re not a conservative,” he said.
