Newt Gingrich has won his home state of Georgia easily, according to projections. This news was widely expected, so the bigger test for his candidacy going forward will be whether he can pull off a victory in one of the other southern states voting tonight, Tennessee and Oklahoma.
If he wins multiple states, he has a stronger case to make that he’s now reemerged as the anti-Mitt Romney, if Rick Santorum also fails in Ohio. But if he only wins his home state, he’ll continue to face questions about why he’s remaining in the race.
