Ryan: Dems ‘do nothing’ while Obama campaigns

Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., pushed back against President Obama’s insinuation that Republicans refuse “to put country before party,” arguing that Senate Democrats have failed to address several legislative items passed by the House and dismissing Obama’s latest jobs proposal as a sign that Obama is in “campaign mode.”

Chris Wallace at Fox News Sunday asked Ryan if Obama could “campaign against a, quote, ‘do-nothing’ Congress,” and Ryan replied with a litany of Republican legislation pigeonholed by Senate Democrats:

We passed a budget that balanced the budget, pays off the debt, reforms that tax code by getting rid of loopholes and lowering tax rates. We passed regulatory reform. We passed new energy development to explore domestic energy production.
We have passed so many bills out of the House to create jobs and they are sitting over in the Senate. And so if he wants to run against the do-nothing Congress, he should focus it on the do-nothing Senate Democrats. It is 817 days since they bother to try to pass a budget.

Ryan continued with a shot at President Obama over his latest jobs proposal and his claims that Republicans are putting politics ahead of what’s best for the country. “When the president does things like this it leads [me] to believe that he’s not in bipartisan consensus making mood,” Ryan said. “He’s in a political class warfare mode and campaign mode. And that’s not good for our economy.”
