Diagramming OWS vs. the Tea Party

Yesterday, I critcized New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie for likening Occupy Wall Street protesters to Tea Party activists, but thought it would be worth visualizing my point. Some of you may have seen this Venn diagram that’s been floating around the Internet, which in my mind focuses on a narrow area of agreement among the two groups while neglecting the big picture of how far apart they really are. In case you didn’t see it, here it is:

But my view of the movements is more like an X — both groups start at different points and end up at different points. People are making too much out of the small point at which the groups’ paths cross before heading in different directions. Obviously, in both cases, it’s an oversimplification, but here’s my attempt to visualize it:
