Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney countered President Obama’s Latino outreach by arguing that Obama “has brought hard times to Hispanics,” citing their unemployment numbers.
“Under President Obama, more Hispanics have struggled to find work than at any other time on record,” Team Romney posted on the campaign site. “Hispanics account for nearly 30 percent of Americans living in poverty, an increase under Obama of 2.256 million.”
Romney seems to be competing with Obama’s “Latino’s for Obama” rollout earlier this week. “President Obama has spent the first three years of his term working to restore economic security to the middle class and Latino community,” the Obama campaign declared. “He’s kept nearly 2 million Latinos out of poverty, doubled the amount spent on Pell Grants so 150,000 more Latino students can afford their education.”
This attempt to target Hispanic voters via the economy recalls Romney’s argument that the economy under Obama had seen disproportionate job losses for women.
