The Rasmussen poll Barone linked to yesterday also included some interesting policy questions. Now, policy polls often have limited utility because almost nobody being polled understands the issue as well as they would if they really had to act on it. But such polls can still reflect important facts about the mood and the direction of the country.
My favorite fact in the latest Rasmussen survey was that “Just 18% of Americans think the United Auto Workers union and the federal government will do a good job running Chrysler and General Motors.” This might just reflect that Americans still think business and government ought to be separate–plus a continuing low public trust in Big Labor.
Other interesting policy questions last week, from Rasmussen’s web site:
- 75% Say New Energy Sources More Critical Than Fuel Efficient Cars
- Only 38% Agree With Cheney That Obama Has Hurt National Security
- 31% Say Healthy Should Be Required to Buy Health Insurance
- 55% Back Higher Fuel-Efficiency Standards – Even If Car Costs More
They don’t cut clearly in one party’s favor or another.
