Chris Matthews acknowledged last night that he used the word ‘regime’ to describe the Bush administration, after denouncing Rush Limbaugh for using it to describe the Obama administration.
In a follow up to his comments, Matthews said that Rush Limbaugh was using it “to provoke,” but said that no matter the context, ‘regime’ is “just not the right word.”
Last week, Matthews suggested that Limbaugh was engaging in ‘loony toon’ talk by using the word to describe the Obama administration.
“You go to war with regimes. Regimes are tyrannies. They`re juntas. They`re military coups. The use of the word “regime” in American political parlance is unacceptable, and someone should tell the walrus to stop using it.” Matthews said at the time.
Byron York reported that the use of the word ‘regime’ was commonly used to describe the Bush administration including Matthews himself.
