Obama will have some splaining to do

A Republican operative reminds me of Obama’s fairly recent speech as he was selling the tax deal that went through Congress:

“This week, Congress passed – and I signed into law – an essential economic package that will help grow our economy, spur businesses, and jumpstart job creation. … This package, which is so important for our economy at this pivotal time, was the product of hard negotiations. … I’m heartened by our ability to come together to do what’s best for middle class families across this country, and our economy as a whole.”

The deal Obama was praising kept taxes at their current rate and created a payroll tax holiday. If he thinks that tax hikes are a good idea now, or that the payroll tax should be increased further (above the increases already in Obamacare) in order to shore up entitlement programs, he’s at least going to have to reconcile that with his earlier position.
