President Obama will not watch the Republican presidential debate tonight, but he will follow the baseball playoff game between the Detroit Tigers and the Texas Rangers and attend to “responsibilities for raising money,” according to a White House deputy press secretary.
“I asked [Obama] if he would watch it,” Principal Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters today, “and he said that he probably would – that he would probably be watching the Tigers-Rangers game.”
“And be raising money,” suggested one of the White House press corps. Earnest affirmed that “there certainly will be some responsibilities for raising money,” although he added that he didn’t “know exactly when the fundraisers will end and when the debate will start, or the first pitch will be thrown.”
Obama will attend two fundraisers today in Florida, one hosted by “mega-attorneys Ultima and John Morgan, who own the Morgan and Morgan law firm.” Morgan reportedly set a fundraising goal of $500,000 for today’s event.
Earnest added that the Tigers will have “at least one person loudly cheering” on board Air Force One: Gene Sperling, a White House economic adviser.
