Cain leads Obama in Rasmussen poll

Herman Cain is ahead—of Barack Obama—in Scott Rasmussen’s latest poll. Yes, it’s by a statistically insignificant 43%-41% margin, and it’s not all that much different from Rasmussen’s poll last week showing Obama ahead of Mitt Romney by the same 43%-41% margin.

Still, I think it’s notable for a couple of reasons. Number one, Cain has evidently raised his name identification significantly among general election voters. He’s getting a higher percentage against Obama than any other Republican in Rasmussen’s polling–though, as mentioned, Romney does just about as well. The other Republicans are all in the 30s, as Cain was in earlier Rasmussen polls, except for Gary Johnson who gets 27%. Number two, as I noted in my October 1 Examiner column, Cain continues to hold Obama to his lowest percentage, 41%, against any of the Republicans tested.

There are plenty of reasons to think that Cain’s standing may not be sustainable. But for the moment he’s doing pretty well.
