That whole resignation thing? Not so great if former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin covets the presidency, according to a new poll. And who doesn’t covet the presidency? Mike Huckaboom is in Israel this week — but we digress.
The latest Marist poll asked Republicans and GOP-leaning independents for their picks if the election were held today. Twenty-one percent said Mitt Romney, 20 percent said Palin and 19 percent said Huckabee. Newt Gingrich got 10 percent, Bobby Jindal was the choice of five percent and Tim Pawlenty squeeked in with one percent.
Most telling: 24 percent of Republicans and leaners were undecided. From the poll:
Sixty-one percent of the national electorate thought Palin’s resignation was a bad political move while just 15 percent report it helps her political aspirations. The self-proclaimed “soccer mom” doesn’t even gain the affirmation of her own party. A slim majority of Republicans — 51 percent — think Palin’s stepping down hurt her political future.
