President Obama tonight — will he go from “Rags to Riches”? — is headlining two DC fundraisers, including an event at the Warner Theater, featuring Tony Bennett. Tony Bennett! And he’ll stop in at an event at the National Museum for Women in the Arts. Both raise money for the Democratic Party.
Obama hopes to thaw the “Cold, Cold Heart(s)” of Democratic donors — the party is trailing the GOP in the post-election money chase. The DNC in February took in $3.3 million to the RNC’s $5 million, reports CNN. More to the point, the Republicans have $24 million in the bank, to the Democrats’ $8 million. Ah, “The Good Life.”
Tonight will be the first test of the president’s fundraising prowess post-election. Obama on Wednesday also endorsed Scott Murphy, the Democrat running in New York’s 20th congressional district for the seat vacated by Kirsten Gillibrand, who won the sweepstakes for Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat.
