Pollster Scott Rasmussen reports that public support for increased government regulation of banks and credit card companies is declining even as Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd’s bill for that purpose is advancing in Congress toward enactment.
“A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 49 percent of Americans now believe there is a need for more government oversight of the credit card industry. In April of last year, 57% felt that way,” Rasmussen said.
“Unchanged from the previous survey are the 30% who say there is no need for additional government oversight of credit card issuers. Another 21% are not sure, up from 13% last April,” he said.
