Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D. Nev., and House Speaker John Boehner, R-Oh., are heading back to the White House at 1 p.m. this afternoon for more budget talks with President Obama, the White House announced. Vice President Joe Biden will also be in on the talks.
The meeting comes with a looming government shutdown at midnight tomorrow if no deal is reached. Reid said today of a shutdown that, “it looks like it’s headed in that direction.”
House Republicans are planning to pass a one-week budget measure at some point today to avert a shutdown that will keep the military funded for the rest of the year. Reid and Obama have both rejected the idea.
