In case it hasn’t been clear for years now, the United Nations wanted to be sure everyone knows that it is a catastrophic joke. So it just placed China on the Human Rights Council.
The U.N. was apparently unsatisfied with World Health Organization bureaucrats helping cover up the coronavirus pandemic and propagandizing on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party. So now, China has been elected to sit on the U.N.’s premier human rights body, along with other rapacious human rights abusers such as Cuba, Russia, and Pakistan.
The U.N. has been an embarrassment for years, and the Human Rights Council specifically has been a cesspool of authoritarian apologia. China is the world’s worst human rights abuser, both in terms of the number of people under its rule and the level of evil on display. Apparently, concentration camps where Uighurs are being forced into abortion and sterilization are no big deal for a council on human rights.
This is why Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo were right to pull the United States out of the Human Rights Council. The UNHRC has no moral legitimacy, and the repeated capitulation to China by the U.N. and its member states deserves the reevaluation of American politicians after the WHO’s abysmal coverup on behalf of the CCP.
The U.S. pays dues to the U.N. to the tune of $674 million in 2019. In return, the U.N. dedicates its time and resources to attacking Israel while turning a blind eye to the abuses of countries like China, Russia, and Iran. We also got a global pandemic that has killed over 200,000 people in America and threw millions into employment, all because the WHO covered for China on the coronavirus from day one.
The U.N. is not going to change for the better, no matter how much the U.S. tries to change it from the inside. Joe Biden’s promises to rejoin the WHO and the UNHRC will accomplish nothing except to make taxpayers fund global bureaucracy that actively opposes American values.
The U.N. can’t be saved, and there is no reason for the U.S. to continue dignifying the body with its membership. The U.N. is an abomination, and it is past time for the U.S. to focus on other global efforts to promote freedom, human rights, and American interests.
