During Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s legislative briefing this week, the Minority Leader took issue with Catholic bishops for protesting a mandate proposed by the HHS for health insurance companies to cover contraceptives, sterilizations, and abortifactants.

“As a mother of five children in six years, as a devout Catholic, I have great respect for our bishops when they are my pastor. As lobbyists in Washington, D.C., we have some areas of disagreement.” Pelosi replied, to a question asked by CNS News reporter.

The United Conference of Catholic Bishops is criticizing the proposed mandate for its extremely narrow exemptions for churches and businesses who refuse such coverage for moral or religious reasons.
