Perry hits Romney’s economic record

Gov. Rick Perry, R-Texas, took a page out of Jon Huntsman’s playbook in attacking former Gov. Mitt Romney, R-Mass., for his stewardship of the Massachusetts economy.

Perry’s campaign compared Texas’ economic growth to Massachusetts’ comparative struggles:

So how do Romney and Perry compare to the U.S. during their respective tenures? While Romney was governor, Massachusetts saw a 1.4% job gain. The U.S. saw a 5.3% job gain. During the same time period, Gov. Perry’s Texas saw an 8.9% job gain. Romney ranked 47th in job creation and failed to keep pace with the national average, even with strong economic winds at his back . . .

By contrast, Rick Perry has been governor during an extremely volatile long-term bear market in which the market has lost value. However, despite these wild fluctuations in the economy, Perry has consistently helped create jobs. Throughout Gov. Perry’s entire tenure, Texas has seen an 11.3% job gain, while the nation as a whole has experienced a 1% job loss.
