Following up on yesterday’s post, Republican Rep. Jim Gerlach is out of the governor’s race in Pennsylvania. His campaign spokesman told me that Gerlach hasn’t made up his mind about what he’ll do next. In other words, Gerlach could come back and seek re-election to his suburban Philadelphia House seat.
On a similar note, which came as a surprise to me, former Florida Republican Rep. Joe Scarborough just suggested on his MSNBC television show this morning that Republican Gov. Charlie Crist might give up his Senate bid and go back and run for re-election as governor.
Crist, under fire for his liberal policies as governor and his support of the stimulus package, has lost most or all of his 30-point lead in the GOP primary. According to at least one poll Crist has gone from being a prohibitive favorite in the general election to being a less competitive candidate than his conservative opponent, Marco Rubio.
UPDATE: Gerlach has un-retired and will seek re-election to the House.
