What is RNC Chairman Michael Steele doing, suggesting that his party is unlikely to win back the House? It might not be as bad as it looks.
Back in 2005, Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid temporarily delighted Republicans when he took to the Senate floor and declared that his party was unlikely to win back the Senate in that year’s midterm elections.
“I would like to think a miracle would happen and we would pick up five seats this time,” he said.
But Republicans were no longer so delighted the following year, when Democrats did indeed pick up the five seats they needed, plus one. Reid had successfully managed expectations according to the famous business rule of UPOD: “Underpromise, over-deliver.”
Steele may just be doing the same thing.
