Mexico demands info on U.S. undercover operation

The Mexican government is asking US officials for information on a secret

operation to arrest top drug cartel members that included smuggling weapons

from the US across the southern border.

The operation, called “Fast and Furious” was set up to follow the path of

the weapons that were sent from the U.S. into Mexico.

Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it has requested “detailed

information on this case.”

U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) led the

operation, allowing weapons to cross the border, said CBS news, which originally broke the story.

Since December 2006, nearly 35,000 people have been killed in drug related

violence in Mexico. Those numbers may be much higher say law enforcement

officials, who contend that many deaths go unreported.
