Ron Paul supporters were disappointed that they placed second in the Ames Iowa Straw Poll, but what made it worse was the media continued to dismiss their favorite candidate.
Politico columnist Roger Simon frankly admitted to Howard Kurtz on CNN’s Reliable Sources that, “The media doesn’t believe that Ron Paul has a hoot in hell’s chance of winning the Iowa caucuses, winning the Republican nomination, or winning the presidency. So we’re going to ignore him.”
Supporters of the candidate are frustrated as many hoped the Ames Straw poll would force recognition from both the media and fellow GOP candidates.
“Notice anything strange about this headline?! How much more blatant could the mainstream media’s bias possibly be? Ron Paul was in 2nd place, just 1% behind Bachmann. Pawlenty was around 14% behind Bachmann.” wrote staffers on Paul’s campaign Facebook page, posting a Politico headline, “Michele Bachmann wins Ames Straw Poll, Tim Pawlenty gets third”
On another note, if you haven’t read Timothy P. Carney’s excellent column today regarding Ron Paul, you should.
