Monmouth has Romney up 11 in South Carolina

Another day, another South Carolina poll showing Mitt Romney with a double-digit lead in South Carolina. Yesterday it was Insider Advantage showing Romney up 32% to 21% over Newt Gingrich. Today it is Monmouth University showing a similar 33% to 22% lead.

According to data released by Monmouth, every demographic subgroup but one prefers Romney over Gingrich. Only those who identify themselves as “very conservative” choose Gingrich over Romney, and only by a 30% to 25% margin. Evangelicals, Tea Party supporters, men, women, young, and old all picked Romney over Gingrich, although his lead among evangelicals was only 3 points, 29% to 26%.

“Governor Romney appears to be consolidating his status as the one to beat. While he doesn’t enjoy an outright majority, he performs well with every major voting bloc possibly because the field is still crowded,” Monmouth University Polling Institute director Patrick Murray said.
