Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., and Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., faced an anthrax scare last month when they received letters appearing to contain anthrax that ultimately proved non-hazardous.

Kathryn Cohen Allen, a 45-year-old woman from Florida, allegedly mailed the letters between June 24 and June 28 of this year, according to a Justice Department indictment announced today. “She also mailed similar letters to the Hamilton County, Fla., Correctional Institution, the Hamilton County Health Department, the Hamilton County Tax Collector’s Office, the Florida Department of Children and Family Services and to three private citizens,” DOJ alleges.

“We appreciate law enforcement’s diligence in working to apprehend the suspect and helping us continue to serve our constituents,” Rubio’s spokesman, Alex Burgos, said in a statement to The Washington Examiner.
