Conservative talk show host Glenn Beck defended CNN’s John King from Newt Gingrich, who rebuked King for asking a debate question about allegations made by Gingrich’s ex-wife, and Beck jokingly suggested that Gingrich is “not qualified” to be president if he was really shocked by King’s question.
“[On] this question, I feel bad for John King,” Beck said today. “I feel bad for him because he had to ask the question . . . it was the big story of the day.”
Beck dismissed Gingrich’s shock at King’s question. “He is not qualified to be president of the United States if he is ‘astounded’ that CNN would do something like that,” Beck laughed. “You’re ‘astounded,’ ‘quite frankly astounded’ that CNN would do something like that to the Republicans; wait’ll you see what Iran has planned.”
But Beck didn’t defend the media for the whole segment. “Everybody hates the press, and this is anybody but the press,” Beck said about the debate audience’s positive reaction to Gingrich’s answer. “This right now is anybody but the press — and they deserve it; they deserve it — they’re dirtbags.”
