Poll: Romney leads Santorum in Ariz. 39 to 31

Mitt Romney holds an eight point lead over Rick Santorum in Arizona, which holds a primary on the same day as the Michigan election, where Romney only leads by three.

“The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Arizona Republican Primary Voters finds Romney with 39 percent support to Santorum’s 31 percent,” Rasmussen announced this morning. Gingrich has less than half of Santorum’s support in Arizona, with only 15 percent support. Ron Paul brings up the rear, with just seven percent support in the state.

“The Arizona Republican Primary race has tightened dramatically over the past two weeks,” Rasmussen observed, “but former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney remains in first place with Rick Santorum close behind.”

The Mormon population in Arizona buttresses Romney’s position in that state, although the Mormon vote will have less of an impact in Arizona than it did in Nevada (where Romney won by 30 points), which has a larger Mormon population than Arizona and conducted a caucus, rather than a primary.
