A group of 15 female Republican members of the House of Representatives held a press conference moments ago, reiterating the GOP message that the shutdown battle is about spending — not, as Democrats have been claiming, about funding for Planned Parenthood.
“House Republicans from the very beginning have been about getting as much spending cuts as possible,” Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., said.
It was a a point echoed repeatedly, with Rep. Mary Bono Mack, R-Calif., saying that the fight is about three things: “Spending, more spending and too much spending.”
They wouldn’t respond directly to questions about whether they would support a bill that included funding for Planned Parenthood, with Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., saying “we’re going to see what comes back to us.”
