Sotomayor calls Harry Reid

Judge Sonia Sotomayor has begun the traditional round of calls to the Senate, whose approval she needs to become the next Supreme Court Justice.

Sotomayor called Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., on Tuesday, according to Reid spokesman Jim Manley.

“He told her he was glad to have someone with experience on the bench and in life and he told her he would work hard to confirm her,” Manley said.

Sotomayor also called Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

Sotomayor is expected to meet with Senate leaders, but nothing has been arranged yet.
