Gov. Rick Perry, R-Texas, seemed to snub President Obama today by not greeting the president when he landed in Houston for fundraising events this evening, despite the tradition that in-state governors greet the president at the tarmac.
“I don’t know about Governor Perry, and I don’t know what his schedule is today,” Principal Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters this morning when asked if Perry planned to greet Obama. Three local Democratic politicians did meet the president upon his arrival: “Houston Mayor Annise Parker; Rep. Al Green; Rep. Gene Green; and Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee,” the pool reporter noted.
When Obama flew to Virginia earlier in the day, Gov. Bob McDonnell, R-Va., presented him with a golf glove — a friendly gift, according to McDonnell, but potentially a joke at the president’s expense that implicitly criticizes him for golfing too much in a recession.
