Both the Wisconsin Senate Democrats under recall today won their elections, maintaining their party’s 17-16 minority in the state senate chamber.
Fox News has the story:
The Democrats targeted in Tuesday’s election were among the 14 senators who fled the state in February in opposition to Republican Gov. Scott Walker’s proposal curbing public employee collective bargaining rights.
Both won in recalls against Republican challengers.
Democratic Sen. Bob Wirch of Pleasant Prairie defeated Kenosha attorney Jonathan Steitz. Sen. Jim Holperin of Conover beat tea party Republican Kim Simac of Eagle River.

Public interest in recalling Gov. Scott Walker has waned somewhat as Wisconsinites tire of recall elections, but he still may end up on the ballot next year. Also, Democrats seem inclined to attempt further Senate recalls next year, based on this assessment from Daily Kos:
Democrats should consider further recalls early next year, when the Republicans first elected (or re-elected) in 2010 will be eligible. The playing field will be much more advantageous to us, since that batch of GOP-held seats contains a bunch that are bluer than most of those we contested this year, and it also includes a boatload of freshmen swept in on last year’s red tide. We’ll also only need one seat rather than three, and it’s hard to see any of our remaining seats being vulnerable.
