President Obama has left the door open to the possibility of more recess appointments, as his spokesman refused to confirm or deny that the president intends to make other controversial appointments.
“I have no announcements to make about appointments or nominations today,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said evasively. He was responding to a reporter who asked, “are there any further recess appointments in the pipeline or was this just a one-day flurry?”
Carney noted later in the press briefing that “President Obama has 74 nominees currently pending on the Senate floor,” which provides ample opportunity for recess appointments.
