George Will: Trump an ‘entreprenuerial charlatan’

Respected conservative columnist George Will suggested that both major political parties consider how to prevent “charlatans, entrepreneurs, and entrepreneurial charlatans” — such as Herman Cain and Donald Trump, he said — from participating in the presidential campaigns in 2016. Arianna Huffington concurred, comparing Cain’s candidacy to the reality TV show, Keeping up the Kardashians.

“[B]oth parties have to do some serious thought as to whether they can develop some filter to prevent this process, particularly with made proliferation of debates from being hijacked by charlatans, entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial charlatans,” Will said during ABC’s This Week.

Asked to identify the candidates he had in mind, Will first mentioned Cain, “who used this as a book tour in a fundamentally disrespectful approach to the selection of presidents.”

He also called for presidential candidates not to participate in the upcoming presidential debate moderated by Donald Trump. “Now, we have a December 27th debate proposed that would be moderated by Donald Trump,” he said. “Surely it is time for these candidates to do something presidential, stand up and say we’re not going to be hijacked and participate in this.”

Arianna Huffington concurred with Will, comparing Cain’s candidacy to Kim Kardashian’s reality TV show. “[T]he breathless way in which the media awaited the news of Herman Cain suspension of his campaign, were really amazing,” she said. “I mean basically, right now, we should give them a reality show, keeping up the Cains. And hashtag #winningbackmrscain. And really make it a reality show.”
