Bill Clinton? Yes, Bill Clinton

The White House this morning issued a non-statement on former President Bill Clinton’s mission to North Korea. The former president is hoping to secure the release of two reporters accused by Pyongyang of illegally entering the country.

“While this solely private mission to secure the release of two Americans is on the ground, we will have no comment,” said White House press secretary Robert Gibbs. “We do not want to jeopardize the success of former President Clinton’s mission.”

The Clintons have a complicated relationship with North Korea. Doesn’t everyone? Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently criticized Kim Jong Il’s pursuit of nuclear weapons and was described as a “funny lady” by an unnamed North Korean government official, who called her “by no means intelligent.”

“Sometimes she looks like a primary schoolgirl and sometimes a pensioner going shopping,” he said.

AFP reports that former President Clinton will meet today with Kim Jong Il and fly home tomorrow with Laura Ling and Euna Lee.
