A conservative challenger in North Dakota

Given that the open Senate seat in North Dakota is considered to be a gimmee for Republicans, they should probably be careful about selecting their nominee. The frontrunner is Rep. Rick Berg, R, who was a highly coveted recruit for the NRCC in 2010. Berg knocked off longtime Rep. Earl Pomeroy, D, in 2010, which was quite an accomplishment. He has since proven to be disappointing enough for conservatives that the Club for Growth slammed him for voting repeatedly against spending cuts. It would not be surprising to see a full court Club press against him in next year’s primary.

But you can’t beat someone with no one. One alternative i Duane Sand, who has run for office repeatedly in North Dakota over the last decade with no success. This time, he has reinvented himself as a Tea Party candidate and hired a serious operation. Sand released this video just now, attacking Berg for his debt deal vote and hinting at an official campaign announcement for the primary next Monday.
