Jon Huntsman announced that he will debate foreign policy and national security issues with Newt Gingrich, who has said he’d like to face every one of the Republican candidates (and President Obama) in such a one-on-one debate. The debate will take place in New Hampshire, where Huntsman has staked his hopes for the Republican nomination.
“Newt 2012 and Jon Huntsman for President have agreed to a Lincoln-Douglas style debate focused on foreign policy and national security,” said the Huntsman campaign in an announcement of the debate details. “The debate will take place Monday, December 12th at the Institute of Politics in Manchester, New Hampshire.”
The campaign managers for Huntsman and Gingrich released a joint statement on the debate, saying that “Governor Huntsman and Speaker Gingrich look forward to debating in a substantive format that will allow both candidates to highlight their experience and view for the country.”
The issues could be favorable to Huntsman, who served as ambassador to China from 2009-2011.
