Rep. Tom Cotton is appearing in a new ad with the man who “taught him how to be a soldier” to hit back at Democratic opponent Sen. Mark Pryor‘s claim that he feels a “sense of entitlement” because of his military service.
The Arkansas Republican’s ad, entitled “At Ease,” is a 30-second Youtube clip featuring Cotton’s drill master from basic training, Sergeant Norton.
Cotton says the traits instilled in him by Sergeant Norton, namely “accountability, humility and putting the unit before yourself,” stuck with him and will help him in the Senate.
Before he became the representative for Arkansas’s 4th district in 2013, Cotton was in the U.S. Army from 2005 to 2009, where he ascended the ranks to captain before his departure.
Pryor was first elected to the Senate in 2002. His father, David Pryor, was a senator from 1979 to 1997.
