We were a little worried that the whole, West Wing reorganization thing would drag on like the Afghan war strategy, with months of meetings and hand-wringing and the drip-drip-drip of suspiciously sourced micro-scoops about who was in and out.
But there is movement! President Obama today ended less than a week of speculation by naming Bill Daley his new chief of staff. The move was reported last week by Bloomberg. Pete Rouse, the acting chief of staff, moves into a counselor to the president job.
Staffers at the brief event gave Rouse a lengthy standing ovation. For his part, Daley said he was “honored” by the opportunity and looks forward to getting back into government.
So — the White House is back at work (see photo). On Friday, Obama will announce new members of his economic team (Gene Sperling?) and hopefully soon, a new press secretary.
