The Huckabee heartbreak

Just another sad song!  (ap)

The White House gatecrashers, Tiger’s crash and alleged affair, Black Friday melees at Toys R Us  — can we get some happy news, please? No? OK, here’s more sorrow for America: Mike Huckaboom probably won’t run in 2012! Now what?!

On Fox News Sunday, Chris Wallace asked Huckafun about a poll showing 70 percent of Iowa Republicans view the former Arkansas governor favorably, and a national poll that rated Huckaluv ahead of Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich.

“So, Gov. Huckabee, why wont you run for president in 2012?” Wallace asked.

“Well, there’s obviously a lot of smart people in Iowa,” Huckabee said, chuckling (sounding like a candidate, to blog ears).

Huckabee said among other reasons, his Fox News gig is “really, really wonderful.” This weekend he is interviewing the parents of murdered television anchor Anne Pressly. But he said deciding whether to run includes worrying whether people will actually support him and give him money. He noted — possibly with a little bitterness — that in 2008, the “establishment Republicans” mostly blew him off.

“And while I think a person can possibly win without them, the Republican Party needs to unite if it’s going to win in 2012. And anyone who thinks Barack Obama is an easy mark-off, just remember, Bill Clinton was just labeled politically dead and came back to win a resounding reelection in 1996,” Huckabee said.

Hmm. So it sounds more like he just needs to be talked into it. In the meantime, food for thought: If Lou Dobbs and Sarah Palin both run and end up on the same ticket, who should play president and who should play vice president???
