Members of the Arab League and African Union are attempting to persuade
Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi to leave the country with his family and are weighing their own “no fly zone,” news outlets from the region are reporting.
“Everyone is concerned and these are very dangerous times,” said a North African official familiar with ongoing talks. “The problem is that no one wants Gadhafi and there are no guarantees that he will even accept an offer”
According to the Arab news network Al Jazeera, Wednesday’s Arab League ministers’ meeting in Cairo rejected any direct outside military
intervention in Libya. They ministers, however, reiterated their condemnation of Gadhafi’s use of force.
The Arab resolution called for the Libyan government to respond to “legitimate demands of the Libyan people” and to stop the violence. The ministers also called on Libyan authorities to lift restrictions on media
and mobile networks and allow the delivery of aid, al Jazeera reported.
