Obama: I don’t like to pay taxes

President Obama, making the case for new tax increases in his latest deficit reduction plan, did concede that he, personally, prefers not to pay more taxes.

Speaking in the Rose Garden, Obama said, “I promise, it’s not because anyone looks forward to the prospect of raising taxes or paying more taxes – I don’t.”

Indeed, dislike of paying taxes runs in the Obama Administration, so much so that at least four of Obama’s cabinet nominees had to explain some variation of a tax evasion or error.

To recap:

Kathleen Sebelius, eventual head of the Department of Health and Human Services, had to pay $8000 in back taxes.

Sebelius failure was nothing compared to the man who Obama had originally nominated for HHS Secretary, because former Sen. Tom Daschle failed to pay $128,000 in taxes over the three years prior to his nomination. He had to withdraw as a result.

Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner had to explain his failure to pay almost $43,000 in taxes over a three-year period.

Hilda Solis’ confirmation as Labor Secretary was delayed by news that she had to pay $6400 to clear tax liens on her husband’s business.
