Stimulus Update: Be thankful for more phony jobs “created or saved”

As you sit down for Thanksgiving with your family, be thankful for President Obama. He is such a great leader that, in his hands, just $500 is enough to create or save a job. Yes, that’s right — or at least, that’s what the stimulus reports would suggest.

The Examiner has continued to study stimulus contracts, focusing this week on the ones that make outlandish claims about the number of jobs created with tiny sums of cash. Who would have thought, for example, that the Toro Company, which famously created 50 jobs by selling one lawn mower, could create yet another 50 jobs by selling a single utility truck?

And where else but on a stimulus project can a $3,000 parking lot painting contract create 7 jobs?

We’ve added the new jobs “not really created or saved” to our Stimulus Jobs map. The jobs on the map and in the spreadsheet below it account so far for more than 14 percent of all the stimulus jobs the administration claims were created by its $787 billion stimulus.
