West Virginia’s Bruce Barilla is challenging incumbent Rep. Nick Rahall for the Democratic nomination. Barilla’s site is a bit rough, but his campaign video features the mother of all non-sequiturs. While listing his opponent’s stances on issues ranging from government-mandated health insurance to the effects of cap and trade on local plants, he casually tosses in his opponent’s support of “gay sex.”
“Hi, I’m Bruce Barilla. People ask why I’m running against Congressman Nick Rahall. He’s supported bankrupting coal-powered plants and skyrocketing electric bills, tax penalties and possible jail time for Americans who refuse to buy government mandated health insurance, and gay sex in an unnecessary hate crimes bill. That’s why I’m running, and I would appreciate your vote. Thank you.”
That’s one way to play off of divisive social issues.
