Red states must push pro-life legislation to push back on Biden’s pro-abortion policies

Devout Catholic Joe Biden is prepared to lead the most pro-abortion presidential administration in United States history. As Biden enters office, some Republican-run states have already moved to push pro-life legislation, and others should be following their lead.

South Carolina’s heartbeat bill, which has been floated for years now, has taken a crucial step forward in the state Senate. If it were to become law, it would certainly be frozen on arrival by the courts, which paused similar laws passed in Tennessee and Georgia.

Meanwhile, Gov. Kristi Noem is proposing a bill to the South Dakota Legislature that would prevent abortions based on Down syndrome diagnoses, another feature included in Tennessee’s heartbeat bill. This also follows the state of Mississippi banning abortions based on anomalies, including Down syndrome, as well as race or sex.

It is a slow crawl forward for the pro-life movement to roll back the country’s court-endorsed abortion regime, but there is no fight more worthwhile than protecting the lives of the unborn. This is especially true as Biden takes office with Planned Parenthood cheering his plans, which include funding abortions abroad with taxpayer money. As Democrats have embraced a flippant disregard for unborn lives, it is up to Republicans to push back and bring the country’s abortion regime to an end.

The goal has been achieved in Missouri, if only temporarily. After some contentious legal fights that included a battle over Planned Parenthood’s medical license, Missouri is the only state where abortions are not being performed. Its last abortion provider is not accepting appointments to perform abortions indefinitely.

This issue remains part of the core of the Republican Party, and with Biden being joined by a unified Democratic government, it is imperative that Republican-run states dig in their heels. The November elections provide no excuses: Republicans dominated at the state level and currently have unified GOP governments in 23 states.

Republicans wouldn’t just be pushing back on Biden and congressional Democrats. They would also be brushing up against the very courts that have targeted pro-life legislation, thanks to Supreme Court precedent. With Chief Justice John Roberts no longer able to prioritize liberal backlash over the Constitution as the deciding vote, it’s time to test the mettle of the Supreme Court’s new makeup.

Biden has made it clear just how much his administration is going to push abortion, highlighted by the selection of California Attorney General Xavier Becerra to lead the Department of Health and Human Services. Republican legislatures and governors should make their stand now and force Democrats to defend the indefensible.
