A new CNN poll shows that former frontrunner Herman Cain has fallen to third place in the Republican presidential race. According to the survey, Mitt Romney remains in the lead, although just barely, with 24 percent support. Newt Gingrich is in second place, with 22 percent, and Cain is third, with 14 percent. The Georgia businessman is barely ahead of Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who is in fourth place with 12 percent.
In the last CNN poll, in mid-October, Cain registered 25 percent support. Now, after nagging allegations of sexual harassment, Cain’s support has been cut nearly in half. It is just the latest development in Cain’s roller-coaster ride in the polls: nine percent in September, 25 percent in October, 14 percent in November.
The poll also shows that the Republican race remains extraordinarily fluid. Just as last month, 61 percent of respondents told CNN they might change their minds about which candidate they will support.
